A LETTER FROM THE EDITOR
What a Year! What a
Merry Christmas!! It’s hard to
believe that 2012 is upon us and
the next time I write the date I
will most likely get the year
wrong, but that happens to me at
least a few times every January.
In 2011 many outdoors
men and women scored big. We
saw trophy’s from all over the
world got onto walls and into
photo albums, and even if a
record book wasn’t cracked, I am
sure each and every one of us would say the time spent in the great
outdoors was our biggest trophy! I feel that we are living in a
blessed time with abundant game of all types and a tremendous
amount of available opportunities out there. Yes, there are
continuing fights on the fore front, but this month I will only get
into the greatness of the past year, and not the gloom of troubles
ahead
-
2011 started off with a BANG at Oklahoma Station SCI.
Our annual banquet was such a financial success I think we will be
hard pressed to match it for decades to come. Matching 2011’s
environment, fun and beauty will be achieved every year though
and what a night it is. The 2012 27
th
Annual Convention Banquet
and Fundraiser is set for Mar 3
rd
at THE Cowboy and Western
Heritage Museum and what a night it promises to be. More info
can be found

and you had better sign up or you may be left in
the cold.
(May 5, 2011 SCI Helps Tornado Victims)
In May, SCI showed up in support of many of the tornado
victims here in the Oklahoma City area. We had folks at many
locations though many weeks and had a centralized day at the
Mundell residence on May 5th. We ran chain saws, hauled more
trees than could be counted, cleared fallen trees from roof tops and
power lines and cooked up a heck of a great hamburger/hotdog
lunch. The Mundell family is forever grateful and it is just another
of those things that this club does, give to the community.
(other notes of interest, OKSCI also gave the ODWC over
$17,000, sent 2 youth on their first Antelope hunts, and 2 teachers
to AWLS as well but that is just what who we are, not what we did
for club member entertainment in 2011

(Another Future World Trap
Champion is Born!)
In June we had a
great day our at the
Oklahoma City Gun club
with a FREE
Member
Wing-Shooting Workshop
with the ODWC.. Some folks learned how to take down a few clay
pigeons on the fly, others just honed their skills and taunted each
other as one got broke by the power of the earth instead of the
flight of some pellets
-
Everyone had fun and one lucky winner
walked away with a brand new Browning BPS Shotgun!!
In August we all met for a FREE night with Lance Meek
from the ODWC who gave a very informative briefing on many of
the critical issues in Oklahoma Outdoors, to say it was an eye
opener would be an understatement. The night was a great success
and fun for all and we even all learned a thing or two I am sure.
In September the big game hunting seasons began and for
the next 3 months I don’t think we could have gotten 5 members
together in the same part of the state for any events (excluding
those of us that we all in the same hunting camps that is) but that
all changed when the Christmas even came around on 10 Dec.
The 2012 Christmas
Event was hosted by
Hickory Ridge Ranch
and
from
one
sportsman to another;
this was not an event
to be missed! HHR is
one gorgeous place
with
more
big
Whitetail, Elk and
Turkey to view than
you could do in the couple days we were out there. Their staff put
on nothing but spectacular meals and kept us entertained the entire
time we were there. We shot clay pigeons over the edge of a fall
away hillside that gave us a 5 mile view of the rolling country
beyond. We moved indoors and spent hours throwing arrows at
their indoor computerized bow range and even Coach hit a few
bear while we were at it. The facilities were immaculate and did I
mention to you yet, this was yet another free event for SCI
members! (Side note, my wife got her first ever deer with a bow
while on this trip!!

)
I know there are many more things to cover from 2011
but I only have so much space
-
The last thing I would like to
cover is that ALL OF THIS WAS FREE TO MEMBERS! I think
I need to ask what your club has done for you lately and point to
our back pages for the only sign-up form you need to fill out to
make a difference in the great Outdoors.
