Oh what a December
-
The bells of cheer heard
throughout the land, smiles in no short supply, and the
bustle of the holiday season upon us. The weather was
shifting and the hunting seasons were changing so everyone
in Oklahoma knew that Christmas time was soon at hand.
We at SCI had all of the same cheer and spirit and had a
GRAND Christmas day out at Hickory Ridge Ranch in late
December.
All
the
folks at HRR did
such a good job
of hosting us
rough necks and
keeping everyone
doing
things
through the day.
The food was
spectacular
at
every meal, the environment was beautiful and warm, and
even sitting out by the bon fire with jackets to keep the
wind of our necks was very comfortable.
Through the day some of us got into a little friendly
fire fight with shotguns as our weapon of choice. WE shot
singles and also a fun game of elimination with the shooter
after you knocking you out if they hit your missed clay. Now
us none of us are ranked clay shooters (OK, that were
Just making some noise and looking out across Lamar Oklahoma
present anyway) we did have our share of misses
but I do know one young man who changed his Christmas
wish for the year after getting done with a dozen rounds. A
simple tip on how to hold the gun and he didn’t seem to be
able to miss
-
Another thing we did through the day and night was
get some game time and target practice in in HHR’s
computerized bow range. With a 20 yard setup and such a
spectacular room setup, I must say this was more fun than
being in the woods .. well, maybe not, but as close as you
can come. If you have never done Computerized bow
shooting, find a
range and give it a
try! Through
the rounds and
rounds of mini
tournaments
we
went though I must
confess
I
have
plenty of pics of
bad shots and even
some proof of end
scores which may be debated for decades, but I think I will
leave those out for now
-
For those less adventurous with the hardware there
were ranch tours going on through the whole day and to say
the visual enticements were stunning would be doing an
injustice. Seeing a 200 Inch Whitetail on the hoof, or 400
Inch Elk just grazing around is just breath taking. There
were turkeys cruising around causing noise as they
seemingly never stop messing with each other and I am sure
many other critter sightings I just don’t remember.
HRR is definitely a premier ranch for any place in
the world and we are very proud that it is right here in
Oklahoma. So the next time you want a great day outI have
2 ideas for you: 1 – Become a member of Oklahoma Station
Safari Club International as this whole day was free to ALL
SCI members, and/or 2 – get ahold of the folks out at HRR
and book a hunt or day visit and go see what stunning really
is!

MERRY CHRISTMAS
All and her’s to a Happy New
Year filled with tags a plenty and a new
problem in life thrying to figure out where
to hang all the new mounts!!
